About the speaker: 

Dr Maya brings to the company extensive experience as a Seaweed specialist, throughout Asia, Africa and Europe. She shares a strong passion to work with communities developing the marine seaweed in Indonesia. She has strong background in coastal resource management and marine biology. Furthermore, she understands well on the export activity of fisheries products and the licences especially related to the standards on Good Aquaculture Practice (GAP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Hazard Analytical Critical Control Point (HACCP). She manages to establish Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure (SSOP) for a company and other related SOPs for the production of fisheries products, particularly for seaweed.

CREST (Climate Resistance Seaweed Strain) Project - initiative research for improving the sustainability of Kappaphycus seaweed seed production in Indonesia through selective seedling and Good Aquaculture Practices. CREST Project aims to support one of Indonesia’s blue economy pillars, sustainable aquaculture through blue innovation. The concept of this project is to help seaweed farmers in not only improving but also maintaining their production of seaweed. In addition, we also introduce them to the market. Therefore, they can have a sustainable source of livelihood.

This project is a collaborative project between private sector, university (Universiti of Malaya) and governmental institute (BRIN – National Research and Innovation Agency and Kmenko Pangan – Ministry of Coordination for Food).
