Jorunn Skjermo, Senior Research Scientist, SINTEF, Norway
About the speaker:
Jorunn Skjermo is a Senior Research Scientist in SINTEF Ocean. She holds a PhD in marine aquaculture from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 1996 and since that worked at SINTEF. She has been project manager or contributor in >50 R&D-projects in microbial ecology, marine juvenile production and seaweed farming with a focus on up-scaling of the production methods for kelp, introduction of new species and new applications, especially kelp farming in offshore conditions and how industrial kelp farming can contribute to CO2 removal and climate positive effects, and initiated the joint industry project Seaweed Carbon Solutions in 2022. She participates in strategic work for the development of the seaweed industry worldwide in the Safe Seaweed Coalition, coordinates the SIG Seaweed Conferences in Norway (2014-), and has contributed in initiatives and processes like EU Algae Strategies, Seaweed for Europe, The Seaweed Manifesto and UN Global Compact's Blue Road to COP 26. She has authored or co-authored 47 scientific papers with 4428 citations and h-index of 37.
